SURVIVAL & PREPAREDNESS EDUCATION FOR THE DIASPORA

“You ain’t ever gone learn nothing, chick!” Those are the words my Grandfather would speak to me anytime I didn’t want to absorb the knowledge and skills he was trying to bestow upon me. I’d always been an outdoorsy being but my Quapaw Native American Grandfather believed in the necessity to become one with nature and learn to survive and live in it. From making me sleep outside to walking in the Ohio River until the rivers‘ floor escaped me, to wiring and plumbing houses, he knew these skill sets were pertinent to my survival.

From that childhood rearing,  BLACK OUTSIDE was born. While my grandfather passed during my teenage years, his teachings and wisdom will forever live through me. So, in homage to Franklin Lee Wesley Pool Sr., BLACK OUTSIDE exists to provide survival and preparedness education for the diaspora. To have knowledge and die with it without passing it along for the building of future generations and the perfecting of our community would be a dishonor.
